1

To Him who with might supports Earth’s ends, who sits in a threefold seat, Bṛhaspati, with thunder, Ancient sages, deep-thinkers, holy singers, ancient ones have set Him before them.

2

Wild and swift, in well-defined ways, they moved around us, Bṛhaspati. Preserve Bṛhaspati, let His stall remain unharmed, this company’s dwelling, ever-moving birthplace.

3

From afar, those who love the Eternal Law sit down, Bṛhaspati. For You, they dug springs from mountains, which murmur as they pour sweet streams.

4

Bṛhaspati, when first born from mighty splendor in the highest heaven, Strong with His sevenfold mouth, with the roar of thunder, with seven rays, He dispelled the darkness.

5

With the loud-shouting choir, He sang His praises, with thunder, He destroyed the obstructive Vala. Bṛhaspati, with thunder, drove out the cattle, the lowing cows ready for offerings.

6

We serve with sacrifices, gifts, and homage, the Steer of all the Gods, the Father. May we be lords of wealth, with noble offspring and a store of heroes.

7

That Hero, by might and power, has made Himself Lord over all His enemies’ possessions. He cherishes Bṛhaspati well, adorns and worships Him as the foremost sharer.

8

In His own house, He dwells in peace and comfort; to Him, ever-holy food flows richly. To Him, the people pay homage freely—The King with Brahman’s precedence.

9

Unopposed, He rules over His subjects’ riches and the enemy’s people. The Gods uphold that King with Their protection, helping Brahman when He seeks favor.

10

Indra, Bṛhaspati, rainers of treasure, rejoicing at this sacrifice, drink the Soma. Let the abundant drops sink deep within You: grant us riches with full store of heroes.

11

Bṛhaspati and Indra, may this be Your benevolence to us—Make us prosperous. Help our holy thoughts, awaken our spirit: weaken the hatred of our foe and rivals.
