1

YOU enkindle worship for the Gods in the home of man, O Jātavedas, observant and bright as Mitra. Bring them here, you wise and knowing envoy.

2

Tanūnapāt, fair-tongued, balms the paths and ways of Order with its sweet meath. Convey our sacrifice to heaven, exalting our praises with holy thoughts.

3

Invoked and worthy of prayer and adoration, O Agni, come in harmony with the Vasus. You are, O Youthful Lord, the Invoker of the Gods, so, best of sacrificers, bring them quickly.

4

The Sacred Grass is scattered eastward, a robe for the earth as dawn breaks. It spreads widely, far-reaching, fair for the Gods and bringing peace and freedom.

5

Open the expansive Doors wide, like brides adorn themselves for their husbands. High and celestial, all-impelling Portals, admit the Gods and give them easy entry.

6

Let holy Night and Morning, each close to each, seated at their stations, Be adorned by fair and radiant Dames, lofty and celestial.

7

Bring the two first celestial Hotars, arranging sacrifice for man to worship. As singers inspiring us in assemblies, show the eastward light with your direction.

8

Let Bhāratī come quickly to our worship, and Iḷā like a human being. So may Sarasvatī and both her fellows, deft Goddesses, sit on this fair grass.

9

Hotar more skilled in sacrifice, come swiftly today to bring God Tvaṣṭar. He who formed these two, the Earth and Heaven, with their forms, and every creature.

10

Sweeten our offered gift with meath and butter, Agni, Vanaspati the Immolator. As soon as you were born, you prepared the sacrifice, and were the Gods' predecessor.

11

May the Gods accept our offering consecrated according to this true Priest's voice and guidance.
