1

What Mātariśvan, sharp and formed by friction, Herald of all the Devas. in various form, Is he whom they have placed among human dwellings, radiant as light and shining brightly for beauty.

2

They shall not harm the man who sings your praises; such as I am, Agni approves my help. All my deeds they will accept with pleasure, praise from the singer who offers it.

3

Those skilled in worship have taken him in his constant seat and praised him, established him. As if yoked to swift horses, let bearers lead him forward at his command.

4

Astonishing, full of many things he chews and crunches; he shines amidst the wood with broad radiance. Daily, upon his blazing flames the wind blows, driving them like an archer's keen arrow.

5

May those who, still in embryo, hostile and both skilled and eager to harm, never injure, Men blind and sightless through his glory not: his ever-living lovers have protected him.
