1

How, Agni, have the gods aspired and endowed you with the vigor of the living, So that on both sides you foster seed and offspring, that the gods may joy in Holy Law’s fulfillment?

2

Hear this my speech, Divine One, you, Most Youthful! Offered to you by him who gives freely. Some hate you, others praise you; I, your adorer, laud your form, O Agni.

3

Your protective rays, O Agni, when they saw him, saved the blind Māmateya from suffering. Lord of all wealth, he saved the pious, those who wished to harm them did no harm.

4

The sinful one who does not worship you, O Agni, who, without offering, harms us with deceit— May this be his heavy sentence: may he distress himself by his harsh words.

5

Indeed, when a mortal, O Victor, with a double-tongue injures a fellow mortal, Save him, Agni! Praise me, and do not bring us into trouble and suffering.
