1

The reward is given: the Great One sits, ever vigilant, protecting from demon and evil spirit. Golden-hued, he makes the cloud his crown, the milk his carpet in both realms, and prayer his official robe.

2

Strong and roaring, he strides, like one who kills the people; he lets the hue of demons flow off from him, Discards his cover, seeks his father’s assembly, and thus dons the bright robe he has made.

3

He flows onward, from both hands, pressed out with stones; excited by the prayer, the water makes him wild. He frolics and approaches, completes his work with song, and bathes in streams to satisfy the worshipper.

4

They pour out mead around the Master of the house, Celestial Strengthener of the mountain that grants might; In him, through his great powers, cows that eat offerings mix their choicest milk.

5

They, the ten sisters, on Aditi’s lap, send him forward like a chariot from both arms. He wanders and comes near the Cow’s mysterious place, the place his inventions have created.

6

Like a falcon to its nest, so does the God speed to its golden wise-made place to rest. With song they urge the darling to the sacred grass: the Holy One goes like a horse to the gods.

7

From afar, from heaven, the red-hued noted Sage, Steer of the triple height, sings to the cows. With thousands of guides, leading this way and that, he shines, a singer, splendidly through many mornings.

8

His cover takes on a radiant hue; wherever he enters the battle, he drives the enemy far. The Floods’ Winner, seeking the host of heaven, comes glorified with milk, praised.

9

Like a bull circling the herds, it bellows; it has taken on the brilliance of Surya. It looks down to Earth, the Heavenly Falcon; Soma with wisdom views all living beings.
