1

Like rain from clouds, for you, Indra and Agni, I sing this noble hymn from my heart.

2

Hear, O Indra and Agni, the singer’s call; accept his songs. You Rulers, grant his heart’s desire.

3

Do not leave us to poverty, Heroes, Indra and Agni, nor To slander and reproach of men.

4

We honor Indra and Agni, a high and holy hymn, With soft words and prayer, seeking help.

5

For all these holy singers, beseech these Two to aid them, Priests, give them strength to win.

6

With eager praise, we invoke you, bearing sacred food, Fain for success in sacrifice.

7

Indra and Agni, come to us with favor, you who conquer men: Do not let the wicked master us.

8

At no time let the hostile mortal’s blow harm us: O Indra-Agni, protect us.

9

Whatever wealth we seek—gold, cattle, horses— Let us gain, Indra and Agni, as you wish.

10

When heroes call, Indra and Agni, Lords of steeds, Beside the Soma juice, make us safe.

11

Sing hither those who best slay the foes, who love to sing, Who take delight in hymns of praise.

12

Kill the wicked man whose thoughts are evil, the demon’s kin, Kill him who stops the waters, kill the Serpent with your dart.
