1

Offer sacrifices to Agni, the generous deity whom we must serve. He who is closest to us as family:

2

He who seats himself among the Fivefold People in every home Is wise, youthful, master of the house.

3

May that Agni protect our household and possessions; May he deliver us from suffering.

4

I have composed this new hymn for Agni, the sky-falcon: Will he not give us of his wealth?

5

When his flames are seen in sacrifice, they are fair to behold, Like the wealth of one with heroic sons.

6

May he accept this holy offering, Agni, hear our songs, Who brings offerings, best of worshipers.

7

Lord of the house, whom men must seek, we set you down, O Worshiped One Bright, rich in heroes, Agni!

8

Shine forth at night and dawn; through you, with fires, we are well provided. You, rich in heroes, are our friend.

9

The men come near you for their gain, the singers with their praises: Speech, thousandfold, comes near to you.

10

Bright, Purifier, fit for praise, Immortal with radiant light, Agni drives away demons.

11

As such, bring us abundant wealth, young Child of Strength, for this you can, May Bhaga give us the best.

12

You, Agni, give glory to heroes: Bhaga and Savitar, the gods, And did give us what is good.

13

Agni, protect us from distress: consume our enemies, O God, Eternal, with the hottest flames.

14

And, irresistible, be thou a mighty iron fort to us, With hundred walls for man’s defense.

15

Preserve us, day and night, from sorrow, from wicked men, Infallible! By day and night.
