1

Indeed, this tastes good and is sweet; it is strong and rich in flavor. No one can defeat Indra in battle when they drink of this offering.

2

This sweet juice had the mightiest power to cheer: it emboldened Indra when he vanquished Vṛtra, When he overcame Śambara’s numerous attacks, and shattered his ninety-nine fortresses.

3

This fills my voice when I drink it; this awakens my longing spirit. This Sage has measured out the six expanses from which no single creature is excluded.

4

This, indeed, is he who created the breadth of earth and the lofty height of heaven. He fashioned the nectar in three headlong rivers. Soma supports the wide mid-air above us.

5

He found the shimmering sea of brilliant colors in the forefront of the Dawn that dwell in brightness. This Mighty One, the Steed surrounded by Maruts, upheld the heavens with a mighty pillar.

6

Drink Soma boldly from the beaker, Indra, in war for treasures, Hero, Vṛtra-slayer! Fill yourself full at the mid-day libation, and give us wealth, you Treasury of riches.

7

Look out for us, O Indra, as our leader, and guide us to gain yet better treasure. Excellent Guardian, bear us well through peril, and lead us to wealth with careful guidance.

8

Lead us to ample space, O Indra, to happiness, security, and sunlight. High, Indra, are the arms of you the Mighty: may we take refuge in them.

9

Set us on the widest chariot-seat, O Indra, with two best horses to draw, O Lord of hundreds! Bring us the best among all kinds of food: do not let the foe’s wealth, Maghavan, subdue us.

10

Be gracious, Indra, let my days be lengthened: sharpen my thoughts as if they were a blade of iron. Accept whatever words I speak, dependent on you, and grant me your divine protection.

11

Indra the Rescuer, Indra the Helper, Hero who listens at each invocation, Śakra I call, Indra invoked of many. May Indra Maghavan prosper and bless us.

12

May helpful Indra as our good Protector, Lord of all treasures, favor us with succor, Baffle our foes, and give us rest and safety, and may we be the lords
