1

What deeds has Indra performed in his wild joy, while drinking or in friendship with Soma? What joys have men of old and recent times experienced within the chamber of libation?

2

In his wild joy, Indra proved himself faithful, faithful in drinking, and faithful in friendship. His truth is the delight that old and recent times have tasted in this chamber.

3

All your vast power, O Maghavan, we do not know, nor the riches of your full abundance. No one has seen that might of yours, which brings bounty every day, O Indra.

4

We have seen with our own eyes this great power of yours, by which you slew Varasikha’s children, When by the force of your descending thunder, at the mere solstice, the boldest was demolished.

5

To aid Abhyavartin Cayamana, Indra destroyed the seed of Varasikha. At Hariyupiya, he struck the vanguard of the Vrcivans, and the rear fled in fear.

6

Three thousand, armed, in pursuit of fame, together on the Yavyavati, O much-sought Indra, Vrcivan’s sons fell before the arrow, like bursting vessels, and perished.

7

He, whose two red steeds seek good pasturage, moving between earth and heaven, Gave Turvaśa to Sṛñjaya and, to aid him, gave the Vrcivans to Daivavata.

8

Two teams of wagons, with twenty oxen and damsels, O Agni, Abhydvartin Cayamana, The liberal Sovereign gives me this reward of Prthu’s seed. It is hard to win from others.
