Agni, you are like Mitra, with a noble glory of your own.

You, active Vasu, make fame grow like abundant prosperity.

2

For truly, people pray to you with offerings and hymns. The friendly horse, seen by all, rushes through the air.

3

Together, people light you up as Heaven’s sign of sacrifice, When, seeking happiness, this human race invites you to solemn rites.

4

Let the man thrive who struggles hard, in prayer, and you, the Generous One, bring him safety. He, with the support of high Dyaus, safely passes through the rifts of enmity.

5

The mortal who lights your fire with fuel and offers to you, Supports a house with many branches, Agni, to live a hundred years.

6

Your bright smoke rises high, shining far in the sky. For, Purifier! like the Sun you shine with your radiant glow.

7

For in homes you must be honored as a beloved guest, Gleeful like an elder in a fort, claiming protection like a son.

8

You, Agni, like a swift horse, are urged by wisdom in the forest. You are like wind; home, food, you are, like a young horse that strays.

9

Even the indestructible, you, Agni, like a grazing ox, Even you, Eternal One! of you the Mighty tear down forests.

10

Agni, you enter as Priest the homes of those who sacrifice. Lord of the people, prosper them. Accept the offering, Aṅgiras!

11

O Agni, God with Mitra’s might, call the favor of the gods from earth and heaven. Bring good fortune from heaven, so that people may dwell securely. May we overcome the foe’s malevolent oppression, may we overcome them, through your help, may we overcome them.
