O Agni, eager for strength, the old ones who revered the Law, you were kindled for them, the Ancient, for their aid, You very bright, and holy, nourishing all, most excellent, the Friend and Master of the home.
You, Agni, men have established as their guest of old, as Master of the household, you, with hair of flame; High-bannered, multiform, distributing wealth, kind helper, good protector, drying the floods.
Tribes of men praise you, Agni, who well know burnt offerings, the Discriminator, lavish of wealth, Dwelling in secrecy, Blessed One! Visible to all, roaring loudly, skilled in worship, glorified with oil.
Ever to you, O Agni, as exceedingly strong, we draw near with songs and reverence, singing hymns. May you be pleased with us, Aṅgiras! As a God kindled by the noble with man’s goodly light.
You, Agni! Multiform, God much praised! Giving sustenance in every house as of old. You rule by your might over various foods: That light of yours, when blazing, may not be opposed.
The Gods, Most Youthful Agni, have made you, inflamed, the bearer of offerings and the messenger. You, widely-reaching, housed in sacred oil, invoked, brilliant, they have made the Eye stirring thoughts.
Men seeking joy have lit you, worshipped from old, O Agni, with good fuel and sacred oil. Thus, wet and growing mighty by plants, you spread yourself across the lands of earth.
