1

Whoever understands well should speak to us about the gods— The man whose hymns Varuṇa, the beautiful, or Mitra, loves.

2

For they are kings of greatest might, of most glorious fame far and wide; Lords of the brave, who uphold the Law, the Holy Ones with every race.

3

With prayers for your help, I address you first, My good steeds, I call upon you, Most Wise, to give us more strength.

4

Even from suffering, Mitra grants a path to our home, For those who worship, Mitra grants his favor, warrior at the front.

5

May Mitra’s shelter extend to all, unthreatened, protected by your care, Ever as sons of Varuṇa, we dwell there without fear.

6

You, Mitra, urge this people on, and guide their paths to one goal. Do not neglect the wealthy chiefs, nor us the sages; be our protectors when we drink the Soma.
