As in the first ancient times, as all used to do, as now, he draws forth the power turned hitherward with song, The Kingdom seated on holy grass, who finds light, swift, conquering in the plants where he grows strong.

Shining to him who leaves untouched the heavens' regions, which to his brightness that lies below shows fair in light, Good protector art thou, not to be deceived, Most Wise! Far from deceit thy name dwells in holy Law.

Truth attends the offering presented and to come: nothing checks him in his path, this victory-bringing Priest: The Mighty Child who glides along the sacred grass, the unaging Youth set in the midst of plants.

These come, well-yoked, to you for furtherance in the rite: down come the twin-born supporters of the law for him, With reins easily guided and commanding all. In the deep fall the hide steal away their names.

Thou, moving beautifully in visibly pregnant ones, snatching with trees the branching plant that grasps the juice, Shine, True Singer! amid the upholders of the voice. Increase your Consorts, thou, lively at sacrifice.

Like as he is seen, so is he said to be. They with effective brilliance in the waters have made Earth give us room enough and ample width, great invincible might, with store of heroic sons.

Surya the Sage, as if unmarried, with a spouse, in battle-loving spirit moves over the foes. May he, self-excellent, grant us a sheltering home, a house that wards the fierce heat off on every side.

Thy name, sung forth by Rishis in these hymns of ours, goes to the loftier One with this swift mover's light. By skill he wins the boon whereon his heart is set: he who bestirs himself shall bring the thing to pass.

The chief and best of these abide in the sea, nor does libation fail wherein it is prolonged. The heart of him who praises trembles not in fear there where the hymn is linked with the pure.

For it is he: with thought of Kshatra, Manasa, of Yajata, and Sadhri, and Evavada, With Avatsara's sweet songs will we strive to win the mightiest strength which even he who knows should gain.
