1

I am the sovereign ruler, my empire vast, as I rule all life, all Immortals obey. Varuṇa obeys my command, all gods follow. I am the king of men’s highest realm.

2

I am Varuṇa, the king. I received the first high celestial powers. Varuṇa obeys my command, all gods follow. I am the king of men’s highest realm.

3

I am Varuṇa, I am Indra: in their greatness, these are the two wide, deep regions, These two halves of the world I’ve made, just as Tvaṣṭar knows all beings, joined and held together.

4

I made the waters shed moisture, set the heavens firm in the order’s seat. By Law, the Son of Aditi, Law Observer, has spread the world in three measures.

5

Heroes with noble horses, eager for battle, chosen warriors, call on me in combat. I, Indra Maghavan, stir up the clash; I raise the dust, Lord of unmatched strength.

6

I did all this. The gods’ conquering power never stops me, no one opposes me. When praises and Soma make me joyful, both the boundless realms tremble.

7

All beings know your deeds, tell them to Varuṇa, great Disposer! You are renowned for slaying the Vṛtras. You made the floods flow, those obstructed.

8

Our ancestors were these, seven of Durgaha’s, when her son was captured. For her, they won by sacrifice Trasadasyu, a demigod, like Indra, conqueror of foes.

9

The wife of Purukutsa offered oblations to you, O Indra-Varuṇa, with homage. Then you gave King Trasadasyu, the demigod, the foe-slayer.

10

May we, rich in possessions, delight in wealth, gods in offerings, cattle in pastures; And that cow that doesn’t shrink from milking, O Indra-Varuṇa, give to us every day.
