Help, Varuṇa and Mitra, you two allies with Vasus, Rudras, and Ādityas, protect our chariot, That, like the wild birds of the forest from their nest, our horses may fly forth, happy and eager for fame.
Now, all of you gods together, move swiftly on our chariot when among the people you seek a great deed; When, racing through the land with hoofprints, our swift horses tread upon the earth’s ridges.
Or may our Indra here, the friend of all humankind, come from heaven, most wise, surrounded by the Maruts, Join with us in mighty gain, to win the prize of strength. With no foe troubling us, may he accompany us.
Or may this Tvaṣṭar, the god who rules the world with might, move forth our chariot, one-minded with the goddesses; Iḷā and Bhaga, celestial, Earth and Sky, Pūṣa, Purandhi, and the Aśvins, rulers of the world.
Or, seeing each other, those two blessed goddesses, Dawn and Night who stir all living things to action: While with my new song I praise you both, O Earth, that from what moves not you may spread threefold nourishment.
Your blessings as a gift for supplicants we wish: the Dragon of the Deep, and Aja-Ekapād, Trita, Ṛbhukṣan, Savitar will be glad in us, and the Floods’ swift child in our worship and prayer.
These heartfelt prayers I offer to you, holy ones: to honor you, living men have formed them, Men eager to win the prize and glory. May they win, like a charioteer might reach the goal, your attention.
