1

I trust in your first fierce deed, O Indra, when you slew Vṛtra and brought benefit to mankind; When the two halves of the world fell short of you in strength, and the earth trembled under your might, O Thunderbolt.

2

You with your magical powers tore apart the magician Vṛtra, O Blameless One, with a heart that craved fame. Heroes choose you when they fight for the prize, you in all sacrifices worthy of praise.

3

Lord Much-invoked, take pleasure in these princes here, who, your exalters, Maghavan, have come to wealth. In assemblies, when the ritual succeeds, they sing the praises of the Strong for sons and offspring and untroubled riches.

4

The man who finds joy in well-guarded wealth, whose care brings him the sought-after happy drink, will bring offerings, Maghavan, with you, swiftly win the spoils with heroes in the fray.

5

Now for our company, O Maghavan, when praised, make ample space with might, and grant us riches. You, Magician, our Varuṇa and Mitra, provide food to us, O Wondrous one, as Distributor.
