The sacrifice woven with threads on every side, stretched by a hundred sacred ministers and one— Do this, O Fathers, who have come hitherward: they sit beside the warp and say, Weave forth, weave back.

The Man extends it and the Man unbinds it: even to this vault of heaven has he spun it out. These pegs are fixed to the place of worship: they wove the Sāma hymns with their shuttle.

What was the rule, the order, and the model? What was the wooden fender and the butter? What was the hymn, the chant, the recitation, when all Deities paid worship to the God?

Gāyatrī was closely joined with Agni, and Savitar was closely linked with Usnih. Brilliant with Ukthas, Soma was joined with Anustup; Bṛhaspati's voice was aided by Brhati.

Virāj adhered to Varuṇa and Mitra; daily Triṣṭup was Indra's portion. Jagatī entered all the Gods together; thus, by this knowledge, men were raised to Ṛṣis.

By this knowledge, men were raised to Ṛṣis, when ancient sacrifice sprang up, our Fathers. With the mind’s eye, I think I see them who first performed this sacrificial worship.

Those who were skilled in ritual and meter, in hymns and rules, were the Seven Godlike Ṛṣis. Observing the path of the ancients, the sages took up the reins like chariot-drivers.
