1

You are the mighty one; when born, O Indra, you terrified the earth and sky with your power. When, in your fear, all firm-set mountains and monstrous creatures trembled like dust before you.

2

When you draw your two wandering Bays near, your praiser lays within your arms the thunderbolt, With which, O Much-invoked, you strike down enemies and many a fortress with will unshakable.

3

Faithful are you, these you defy, Indra; you are the Ṛbhus' lord, heroic, victor. By your side, for young and glorious Kutsa, with horse and chariot, you slew Śuṣṇa.

4

As a friend, you furthered, O Indra, when, Thunderer, strong in action, you crushed Vṛtra; As a Hero, you, great-souled, with ease, rend the Dasyus in their distant dwellings.

5

You do this, and are not harmed, O Indra, even in the anger of the strongest mortal. Open the race-course for our horses: as with a club, slay, Thunder-armed! our enemies.

6

Men invoke you, Indra, in the tumult of battle, in the light-bestowing conflict. This aid of yours, O Godlike One, has always been sought in deeds of might in combat.

7

For Purukutsa, you, Thunder-armed, O Indra, break down the seven castles easily. For Sudās, like grass, you rend them, and for Pūru, King, you bring gain out of need.

8

O Indra, God who moves around us, feed us with varied food plentiful as water— Food that, O Hero, you bestow, itself flows to us forever.

9

Prayers were made by Gotamas, O Indra, addressed to you, with praise for your Bay Horses. Bring us abundant riches in noble form. May he, enriched with prayer, come soon and early.
