1

To you, the Great One, I offer this great hymn, for your desire was satisfied by my praise. In Indra, indeed, the victor through his might, the gods rejoiced at feasts and when the Soma flows.

2

The Seven Rivers carry your glory far and wide, and heaven and sky and earth display your form. The Sun and Moon, in constant motion, run their course; may we, O Indra, behold and have faith.

3

Maghavan, grant us the same chariot to bring us spoils, your conquering chariot in which we joy in battle. You, Indra, whom our hearts praise highly in war, grant shelter, Maghavan, to us who love you well.

4

Encourage us in every battle; may we, with you as our ally, conquer the foe's host. Indra, grant us joy and happiness, break down the vigour of our foes, O Maghavan.

5

Here, in various ways, these men invoke you, holder of treasures, singing hymns to win your aid. Ascend the chariot that you may bring spoils to us, for, Indra, your fixed victory wins the battle.

6

He wins cattle with his arms, his power boundless in each act, with a hundred helpers, waker of battle's din. Indra is he: none can match him in mighty strength. Thus, the people eagerly call on him for the spoil.

7

Your glory, Maghavan, surpasses a hundred times, more than a hundred, more than a thousand among the folk. The great bowl has inspired you boundlessly: so mayst you slay the Vṛtras, breaker-down of forts!

8

Of your great might there are three counterparts, the three earths, Lord men, and the three realms of light. Above this whole world, Indra, you have grown great: without a foe are you, nature, from old.

9

We invoke you first among the Deities: you have become a mighty Conqueror in fight. May Indra fill this singer's heart with spirit, and make our chariot impetuous, foremost in attack.

10

You have prevailed and not kept the booty back, in small battles as well as great ones. We make you keen, the Mighty One, succour us: inspire us, Maghavan, when we face the foe.

11

May Indra ever
